Dinosaurs!

We let Mason decide what he wanted to do for his birthday and he chose going to the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller. We had planned on leaving yesterday but cancelled at the last minute after Tanis told us that the museum was closed Mondays - that would have been a disaster (Thanks Tan)! Instead, we made the trip today after Ella got out of school. The roads weren't very good and the sleet kept freezing to the windshield despite the fact that I had the defrost cranked and everyone was cooking inside the car. After two hours and four liters of washer fluid, we made it to the museum. The benefit to the lousy weather was that we had the whole place to ourselves. Everyone had a good time and there was lots to see. Even though we were on a dinosaur hunt, the highlight of the trip was probably the battle royal we had with the foam balls in the play room - go figure. We enjoyed learning about some interesting periods in the Earth's history, but it was nice to finally get back to present day Okotoks.

As I write this, the kids are asleep in their warm beds and the dinosaurs are fading back into the past; but still, the big rock to the West of us and the frozen car windshield outside, both serve as nagging reminders of the last ice age...
