Travel Log

It has been quite a while since we got home but I thought I would take a moment and update you on our trip.

First of all, the kids did an amazing job. They have always travelled really well but this is the longest we have ever gone. They napped and played games together. Heather took some of Jewel's advice and handed out wrapped gifts every few hundred kilometers. They were just things like toy cars and colouring books but they kept everyone happy. I felt like we could be in a Honda commercial after doing a road trip like that with three children in a Civic. On second thought, that would only hurt their minivan sales so they probably wouldn't be interested.

These photos are from a break we took in Idaho Falls. Ironically we had to travel to Idaho to get this close to Canadian Geese. One of them even stole some food right out of Tyson's hand.

We made pretty good time and soon we were in Salt Lake. We spent the first couple days with my old mission companion Josh and his wife Jill. Our kids got along so well with their children. Talking with Josh brought back so many memories that I had forgotten and I was really surprised how normal it seeemed to be back together, even after so many years.

We went to the zoo one day and that evening we went to our misison reunion. None of the missionaries from my group were in attendance but the people that did attend were some of the real awesome ones. It was amazing to see President and Sister Goodman again and I was shocked by the fact that they had not aged at all. It was really cool to see President Goodman talk to Heather and the kids. The night before I came home from Thailand, I had my final interview with President Goodman. From what I rememeber, Heather and the kids were the exact sort of things we had discussed.

We spent the next day enjoying the sights of Temple square. The multimedia presentations in the visitor center were a big hit with the kids and we had to drag them away from some of the displays. It really made me proud to look around and realize that we are a part of all this, and that it is our church that has made so much of an impact.

Here is a photo of us having lunch in the Lion House, it was really neat to have a whole room to ourselves when enjoying the great home cooked food. Actually, our trip was a sort of Culinary Holiday. Our favorite restaurant was probably Cafe Rio.

We spent two nights and watched conference at my Uncle Jim's house. He was really a fantastic host and it was great to see him. We got the chance to visit with Jordan and Lindsay and their boys as well as Ann Marie, Emillie, and Jenna. It really made me appreciate our family

We took two days coming back and stayed over night in Missoula where the kids enjoyed the hotel pool. Before heading out we played for a while at this giant wooden playground/maze.

We stopped at The Manor in Cardston on our way back and, as usual, Jewel invited John and Tanis over and put on a big dinner. It was so nice visiting with them that we really had to force ourselves to get back in the car for the last leg of our journey. Finally, after six day of travelling, we pulled up in front of our little house. A glance at the trip-meter indicated 3,381kms, and I think I can speak for everyone in saying it was worth every last one.

Very cool pictures! We're going to head out to BC coast in 2 months, and the wrapped gift every once in a while is a fantastic idea!!!
