Yegg: Safecracker who can only open cheap and easy safes. - gangster slang
First off, I recommend Ability Lock and Safe to anyone. As soon as the guy saw the photos of the safe, he wrote back to tell me that while they could open it for $175, it probably wasn’t even worth that much. He also informed me that this particular safe was only fireproof, not robberproof. This information proved to be a pivotal clue on what I should use to open the safe: something that wasn’t fire.
In the end, all it took was a pry bar, two claw hammers, and a puffed wheat square.
So what was in this time capsule that my past self handed to my present self across 15 years? Unfortunately, not much. There was a collection of comic books, my Trek hat, some ammunition, two letters, a throwing knife, and a couple disks (no idea what’s on those… or even how I’d go about reading a five-and-a-quarter in this day and age). It also appears that back then I may have been building a bomb (due to the possible evidentiary value, there are no photos of that).
So the safe itself was worthless, but what about the stuff inside? It’s not looking good if my first-edition ‘Punisher 2099’ is any indication. Its 1993 cover price is marked “$1.75US”…
And I just found one on eBay for $1.50.

Oh my goodness that is so funny! I'm glad you finally got in.
It's funny what we considered "valuable" back then isn't it?
Thanks goodness for puffed wheat squares! Glad you managed to open your safe. I checked out Jeff Sitar and he is pretty amazing.
