Back to Work

Saturday morning we woke up and decided to head into Calgary to run an errand. The kids were starving and wanted to stay home for breakfast, but we forced them to come and try Diner Deluxe with us. Diner Deluxe has been on our to-try list forever. We stopped by once while we were in the area, but it was just about to close so we were only able to enjoy a small and pricey milkshake. We'd heard such great things about it and put our milkshake experience behind us. I was so glad that we did. In fact, Ella told me we needed to blog about it and tell everyone that they needed to try it too. Mostly the baked oatmeal--she said that needed to be bolded. Anyways, it was fantastic. This is what we tried...

Urban’s chocolate sourdough French toast with grilled banana--delicious!

Smoked salmon eggs benedict--yummy, but a bit disappointing that it was only one egg.

Maple fried oatmeal with lemon curd & heavy cream. (So the plug for this oatmeal--I have made tonnes of baked oatmeal and while I love every variation I have heard of or invented, there is nothing that tops this fried oatmeal. Seriously the best oatmeal ever. Even Chad, who is not a fan of sweet food for breakfast, enjoyed it! Anyways, it was all great! We also got a side of hashbrowns and chorizo sausage and were all stuffed by the end for a very reasonable amount of money and it is such a cool place. At one point there was an older couple waiting for a table and I looked over at them and just thought it was the cutest thing. They totally fit into this retro diner. Seriously looks like my grandma's house! I cannot wait to go back. I had already picked somewhere I wanted to go for my birthday, but since it is still a month away, I have time to change my mind! They have some yummy sounding lunch items, but I don't know, I might have to have the oatmeal again!

We went for a little walk on Sunday and were disappointed to see all the garbage lying around after so much of the snow has melted. So, for FHE we decided to pick up a bit in our area. The kids totally had fun and it turned into a competition, of course, to see who could get the fullest bag. They all did awesome and we actually had to tell them to stop picking stuff up as everything was falling out when they tried to add something else!

We live in a beautiful area and it was nice to make it look a little better. We see deer a lot, but it was neat to see so many out enjoying the nice weather!

SO fun! Heather, we should TOTALLY go out to eat there when I come for TOFW!!!

Baked Oatmeal...I hadn't heard of it EVER before until Tanis that last conference weekend!

Oh, and your kids are welcome to come pick up garbage in my backyard anytime!!! Sad, I know! I'll have to show my kids pics of your kids having fun doing it just to make it sound more exciting to them!

And happy early bday Chad and Ella. We are packing for our trip and I realized we won't be able to send you bday wishes! This year we are sending family special montages for their bdays and I am NOT on the ball and yours is NOT ready, but when we get back I promise it will be WORTH THE WAIT!!! Love you guys! Have a great bday(s)!

Great post. That diner looks awesome...the very word "diner" makes it seem more quaint. But seriously I would doubt that it was anything nearly as good as your breakfasts...(we enjoyed seeing you guys and YOUR chocolate french toast was devine!!!! yum yum. thanks).
