Meet Orco

Here are the first pics of our new four month old chihuahua/dachshund cross - a breed that has been nicknamed "chiweanie".

Deacon wanted to call him "Fluffy" but we convinced him that it could be a middle name instead.  We took a family vote on different names and everyone seemed to like my reference to the big-eared magician/comedian in the old He-Man cartoons.

We had initially planned on getting a dog for Christmas day, but when this guy was advertised on kijiji, we couldn't pass it up.

Heather was so sweet to not only let us get a dog, but actually suggest the idea.  She is such a softy.

Orco has been with us for only one day, but already he follows us everywhere with his tail wagging.  Last night he started to cry in his crate because he was lonely being in the kitchen by himself.  He was fine once I moved the crate into the living room where the kids were sleeping under the Christmas tree.

I just hope they don't expect anything more for Christmas...

Flooding in Bayport: Part2

Away from the river itself were places where the flood water has come up on to the streets.  It was a really strange amosphere as tons of people just wandered along the closed roads and came for a look.

Ella didn't let the flood interfere with everyday activities like waiting for a bus.

Or crossing the street.

We wandered around and even waded through the street in the early afternoon.   But as the day went on, the waters continued to rise and the town cracked down a little, closing the bridge and roads to pedestrian traffic and giving evacuation orders to a number of homes.

Flooding in Bayport: Part 1

It was crazy to look out the window at lunch time and see the river all the way up to the base of the hill we live on.  The flood water was rushing past so fast that the muddy brown waves were four feet tall.

As we watched, some of the trees along the bank came crashing down and added to the rush of timber.

Unfortunately the town recently did a renovation of this playground and added new gravel and sod.

The kids call this playground the "Park by the River", but right now it is the park in the river.

This place on the other hand had an appropriate name to begin with..

Tyson with a hat

How I got this photo:

       Put a hat on Tyson.

That's all it took.  The dramatic pose seemed to be an automatic reaction.  Funny guy.
