In the Air

Through the miracle of modern technology, I am posting this update while we are in the air above the Gulf of Thailand. (Update: it didn't work because by the time I was ready to upload the post, we were already landing and had to shut off our electronics.)

We are flying with a domestic carrier called Nok Air, "nok" meaning "bird" in Thai. I chose this airline after careful research which convinced me that yes, this was the cheapest option. Maybe not the best criteria for air travel, but I have been really pleased so far. We are on our way to Krabi where a driver should be waiting to take us to our hotel. Above is a photo of the plane we are on now.

When we flew from Chiang Mai to Bangkok, it took only one hour; compare that with the 13 hours it took us to make the same trip by rail. We had a brief layover before our next flight and because I have no self-control, we stopped at McDonalds for lunch, breaking our record for most expensive meal. Here is a photo I took of Heather from across the restaurant as she started to look at the receipt.

This is a photo of our plane from Chiang Mai to Bangkok.

One of the Nok Air "angels" (what they call their stewardesses, not kidding), took this photo of us when we landed in Bangkok. We were also trying to be the last ones off the plane.

This was our in-flight snack, a slice of weiner on a sweet bun with bbq sauce and mayonnaise. Heather was so disappointed because she thought it was a cinnamon bun when she first saw it.

We caught a song taew to the airport in Chaing Mai, after grabbing breakfast at our kai jeow cart one last time. Deacon is enjoying a sucker that he got at 7-11 the night before but was told he couldnt have until after breakfast.

Leaving the hotel. Everyone was sad to go but we are hoping the next stop will be just as nice.

Glad to read another post. Your family all look like seasoned world travelers. I love the picture of Heather in McDonalds. I don't think the picture necessarily needs a 'thought bubble' (I think I can imagine what she might be thinking pretty good:). I wonder what your trips out to McD's will feel like when you guys get back to Canada.
