Name vote please

For those who haven't heard, Heather's latest ultrasound has revealed that the new baby will be another boy. Our let's-have-another discussions were prompted by my admiration of the relationship that my sisters have with each other. I have become keenly aware of the fact that Heather and I will not be around forever, and ensuring our children have close relationships with each other has been a real priority for us. I think it is the best thing we can do for them in our absence.

My sisters are my oldest friends and we share some of the same memories. Jewel and Tanis, and Crystal give me a feeling of security and continuity. They are my link to mom and dad and to my life growing up. They know what I have gone though and they went through it with me. But as close as I am with them, I still understand that there is a special bond just between sisters. I wanted that for Ella.

Oh well, I guess deep down I always suspected that the birth order of our kids would be an only, eldest daughter and three younger brothers - the reverse of my sisters and I. We have decided that we will just spoil Ella and let her know how valuable she is as our only princess. My hope is that she will grow close to her sisters in law and that they care for her the way that my sisters care for Heather.

Whew, sorry for rambling. The real reason for this post is that we are having a hard time deciding what we are going to name the new guy. We have narrowed it down to:

Kade

or

Deacon

Deacon is my favorite. I like it because it is not very common and because it is masculine and would sound good along with Mason and Tyson. However I realize that it might be too clergy'ish or Priesthood'ly for many people. I also accept that some of my past name suggestions have not been the best choices... so I am definitely capable of making a mistake on the subject.

We also really like Kade, but to my ear it sounds a bit curt compared to the two syllable names of the other kids.

The middle name will be Roland because that is The General's middle name and I think he has probably already noticed that Mason Randall and Tyson Henry were named after patriarchs on my side of the family. I guess it's his turn.

So that brings us to my request. Please post your favorite name, or thoughts (or suggestions on other names) in the comments section. Post anonymously so that you can feel free to say what you really think, and also so we don't feel awkward if we end up picking a name that one of our good friends didn't like. Any input is really appreciated!

Thanks,

- C

Kade – Although maybe not a common name itself it does share common sounds with names like Kaden, Kaleb, Aiden and Braden, all of which are in the top ten most popular names for boys right now according to babynames.com. So a boy named Kade might find himself replying “no just Kade, no N on the end" when he introduces himself and is then asked if he didn’t say Kaden by someone who assumes he just trailed off at the end of saying his name.

Deacon – Another definitely not overly used name which I agree fits in well with Mason and Tyson. Any child’s name that allows him to confidently answer “the traditional way” when asked how to spell it gets bonus points from me.

I think both names are good but I will have to vote for Deacon. The overall first name + last name combination flows a bit better as well I think.

Wow, thank you very much for the input. I agree with the point about traditional spelling... it seems like parents are trying to come up with new ways to spell every name, thereby ensuring that the kid will have to correct people his/her whole life.

It hadn't occurred to me before that people might assume that Kade was short for something else... another good point.

I vote for Kade. It's a good strong sounding name. Going from your older boys, you'd likely just call him Deac anyways.

Deac the Geak...
Deac the meak...
"Oh deacon! Do you go to church alot!" ...

Kade is a tough enough sounding name, though that any one would be stupid to mess with him. Actually Judd sounds a bit tougher.

I personallly like Nathan best. Nate the great! see doesn't that sound good.

...go with kade

Both names are great! I think either one. I also knew a guy in High School who went by Roly. (Maybe Roland was his real name???). I really do like Kade...Ella needs another 4 letter name in the Family!

(really, the only real way to know is if you just sing both names in that song...

Deacon Deacon bo beacon bananafana fo feancon me mi mo meacon...DEACON!?

and do the same for Kade.

Wooops! ANONYMOUSLY!!! Right!

OK, A vote for Kade. I have considered that kids might call him Deac the geek. Even more alarming, Tyson and Mason have mispronounced Deacon a few times, saying Dinken instead.

Jewel/Anonymous,

I can't believe that we didn't think of using that song to help us decide on a name...
(You made Heather laugh)

I think you should use Chadwick. or Bradley or Ricky...Ricky Rausch taht is CUTE! or River or Zachary or nolan or Nathan....I like Nate too.

CHEMTD said...

I like Zach and even Nate, but Heather dated a Nathan so that might be wierd.
But Ricky? Really?

Hahah people always asked me if Chad was short for Chadwick.

If I had to pick one I think it would have to be Kade. I think Kade Rausch sounds better then Deacon Rausch. Also if you are worried about your kids saying it wrong, then Kade is the way to go. Kade has less things that it can be rhymed with, so less possiblility of getting picked on.

Deacon isn't bad though. It is definately more unique. I'm sure your new baby would love either name.

Just for fun, and to make you think a little more, I'm going to throw one more name at you. Drum roll please........................
Griffin Roland Rausch. I like it, but you may totally hate it. Just think about it!!!!!

Anyways, good luck, I'm sure whatever you pick will be great!!!!

Wow a fan of Griffin.
It is funny that you mention that because when Tyson was born, we had decided to call him either Tyson or Griffin. Neither Heather nor I could decide between them and the nurses were not going to let us leave the hospital until we filled out the forms. In the end, we just told Ella to pick which one she liked best and that's why Tyson is a Tyson today.

It’s hard to choose between Kade and Deacon. Both are good. If you can’t decide you could always go with Maximus in the event of a stalemate, or you could go with my name, I don’t mind.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to get this ring back to Mordor.

Nate is not the same as nathan. Nate Roland is very cute. That's still my vote although Chadwick Roland is very nice. Noah Roland is cute. I think I like n names...

Kolt, Keegan, Cohen, Jarom, Jayson, Ehtan

All very good suggestions!!!!

Hahaha all very good suggestions indeed!

I think that in the end I will probably just go with Dumbledore Calrissian. It has a certain cowboy-turned-businessman suaveness to it while also projecting a mysterious air of wisdom.

I think I would really respect a man with a name like that. I would probably tell him something like, "if by my life or death I can protect you, I will. You have my sword".

"If by my life or death I can protect you, I will. You have my sword."

Yeah, actually I get that a lot.

both kade and deacon are just fine names....
you DO already have a 'thing' going with your boys names ending the same, so if you like that, then stick with it.
if your home is like mine though, anything sounding similar gets multiple responses when called... so maybe kade would be good then.
is that any help? hee hee, probably not.

i say go with something compeltely different, like the hugely common name in utah being mckay.

or not.

i do really love the name carson too.

there's some blabbing for you to consider :D

When is this baby due?

CHEMTD said...

Heather's due date has recently been changed from July 11 to July 4, and the baby will probably come a little bit earlier too. Man, this pregnancy thing is starting to look pretty easy...

I know this is a little late, but my vote is for Kade. That is a really handsome name. We always think about nicknames they will be called with the names we choose. (Jewel we actually have even sang the same song when choosing our kids names....no joke!) :) We also think about their initials. Now if you choose Deacon, his initials will be DR. Bound to be a smartie if you use the name Deacon! :)

CHEMTD said...

DR...
In all of our planning, I never thought about the first and last initials together. What I did notice was that we will have three pairs of middle initials in our family (Heather and Ella are N's "Nicole", Tyson and I are H's "Henry" and Mason and the baby will be R's "Randall" and "Roland").

If we go with Deacon, his nickname might end up being The "Doctor". Ella is "Bella" (not too imaginative), Mason is "Dudeguy" and Tyson is "Koofin" - which is, more accurately, the name of his alter ego which happens to be an infant monkey... sounds kind of weird when it's written out like that but it suits him, er, them...
